Among the different forms of anaemia, iron deficiency anemia is perhaps the most common (constituting more than 80% of all clinical cases). The statistics now shows that Asians are the group that most prone to this kind of disease, especially young infants, women and senior citizens.
The 3 possible conditions of red blood cells in anaemia are:
1. Enlarged red blood cells
A malignant form of anaemia attributed to vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiency
2. Normal Size of Red Blood Cells
This happens in acute hemorrhage such as during a road accident, injury or surgery, as well as in anaemia caused by a combination of other chronic illnesses. The latter could be related to compromised functions of red blood cells due to chronic disease.
3. Smaller red blood cells
This could be further divided into thelassaemia and iron deficiency anaemia. The former is genetically inherited while the latter is owing to lower iron concentrations in the body.
Signs and symptoms of anaemia
1. Pallor: this is the most common sign in anaemic patients.
2. Lethargy and short breath: Also another common sign of anaemia, this is caused by insufficient air capacity oin the body
3. Compromised immunity and susceptibility to infections such as common cold
4. Passion for iced desserts yet intolerant of cold
5. Reduced learning ability: Growing children may suffer from poor concentration due to fatigue.

Our body makes interferons and interleukins. Both play important roles in the immune system.
Interferons and interleukins are types of cytokines – signals that stimulate and activate certain cells in the immune system.
Interferon provides non specific immunity. It main function is viral infections regardless of type A group of proteins produced early on in a viral infection. Interferon are the first line of defence of our immune system. Interferon stop viral replication. If our body cell is infected by a virus, it will releases minute amounts of interferon, which then attach themselves to neighbouring cells. This will prompt those neighbouring cells tos tart producing their own protective anitviral enzymes.
The results is impariment of the growth and replication of the atttacking virus. Interferon also kick starts other parts of the immune system. Interferon also has anti-tumor effects.
Interleukin is a group of proteins. It functions as chenmical messangers between cells. It ativates the “killer” activities of specific white blood cells in the immune system. Interleukin also regulates cell growth and is particularly important in stimulating immune responses, such as inflammation.

Respiratory diseases: we cannot afford to be overlook
Respiratory diseases could be major or minor. You have minor disease like common flu to critical disease like lethal influenza, bird flue, SARS, etc.
Hence, we cannot afford to overlook the serious consequences of the respiratory diseases.
Let’s see some facts below that you will know how serious respiratory diseases can do damage to us.
a. Over 1 billion people in the word are being threatened by increasingly serious air polution
b. By 2020, estimated about 8 million people will die due to air pollution.
c. Hal a million people are killed by air pollution in Asia every year.
d. According to WHO conservative estimate, about 100,000 man suffer from nasopharyngeal carcinoma every year and the ratio for male to female is 3 to
e. About 1.1 billion smokers in this word presently and is expected increase to 1.3 billon by 2015.
f. 2 million asthma patients in Australia and the incidence of asthma is on the rise in the entire world, about up 50% since the past two decades.
g. According to WHO estimation in 2007, about 210million people suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the world. WHO predictes that this disease will become third most important cause of death in the world by 2030.
Below are some typical respiratory disease:
Asthma
Affecting as many as 300million people worldwide, asthma can be caused by an over reaction of the immune system to factors such as allergens like pollen and animal dander, air pollutants like smoke and dust, vigorous exercise and exposure to cold air or sudden temperature change. THis results in inflammation of the breathing tubes and narrowing of the airways, thus causing difficulties in breathing.
Pneumonia
Together with influenza, pneumonia is currently ranked as the seventh leading cause of death in the USA. Characterized by infection or inflammation of the lungs, pneumonia is mainly caused by viruses, bacteria and mycoplasmas. The onset of a common bacterial pneumonia such as Streptococcus pneumonia can produce gradual or sudden symptoms: uncontrollable shaking, chattering teeth, severe chest pains, sweating and coughing up rust colored or greenish mucus.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
COPD will reduce the ability of the lungs to maintain the body’s oxygen supply and to remove carbon dioxide. Compromised pulmonary functions will result in the sufferer feeling debilitated. In addition, COPD sufferers will present breathing difficulty on sight exertion and are unable to conduct regular day to day activities. As a consequences, COPD sufferers will appear listless. Such impaired air stream will eventually jeopardize the life of the patient.
Common symptoms of COPD are short breath, continuous coughing with or without sputum, increased mucus production, breathing difficulty, chest pain, panting, etc. All the symptoms of COPD will invariably weaken the sufferer. Moreover, the disease will bring about remarkable negative impact on the suffer’s day to day living, for instance many are unable to sleep well because of the symptoms.
Boost our immune system for greater heatlh
We can still survive for weeks without food, for days without water, but we can hardly stay alive for minutes if we stop breathing. Therefore, we must strive to maintain a good health of our respiratory system to ensure that we breathe smoothly every day. We can enhance the health of our respiratory system through the intake of high quality plant foods, while maintaining regular work and rest schedules, stable emotions as well as adequate physical exercises.

What is royal jelly?
Royal jelly is a substance produced by younger worker bees and fed to the larva from which the queen bee develops
Why Royal Jelly is so important to our immune system?
Many studies indicate that royal jelly can prolong life and prevent aging. When royal jelly is added to their diets, ahtletes have reported increased stamina and general well being. Royal jelly shows anti-inflammatory and anti bacterial properties.
Royal jelly helps restore poor appetite and lack of enthusiasm in the elderly. It also primes the immune system, which could prove helpful for people with rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, scelroderma, lupus and other auto immune diseases.
To find out what is behind the many health benefits of royal jelly, we need to understand its nutritional contents.
Royal jelly is rich in 18 amino acids, 8 of which our bodies need but cannot produce on their own.
It is high in many immune system boosting substances such as 10-HDA. German and French researchers have shown that the 10-HDA in royal jelly gets into white blood cells and stimulates them to kill viruses, including the viruses that cause herpes virus (cold sores and genital) and hepatitis.
Royal jelly also contains acetylcholine and globulin. Globulin is very important for boosting the immune system. There is no other good source of globulin apart from royal jelly.
Royal jelly is a good source of B vitamins such as pantothenicacid. Pantothenic acid is crucial for stimulating the production of immunoglobulin, the protiens that the white blood cells produce to protect us against viruses, bacteria and fungi.
Royal jelly is a great source of natural steroid hormones and those steorids are safe and natural. One of the steroid hormones it contains is DHEA. Royal jelly is a natural source of DHEA for the elderly to help boost the adrenal glands and provide a natural blood level of DHEA.
Royal jelly is also a supreme source of progesterone and estrogen. Women who have not flashes are often deficient, or they have an imbalance in the right kind of estrogen. Royal jelly is high in estradiol and the form of estrogen it contains is safe. Therefore, royal jelly may help young women to regain balance in their menstrual cycle. It may relieve hot flashes because it provides the deficient hormones that lead to the hot flashes.

Acupoint Therapy can be defined as an extension of Willy Penzel’s modern APM system or the Akupunkt Massage. This therapy is nothing but stimulation of the acupuncture points and the meridians using a stick called the therapy stick.
Though there is no sufficient evidence scientifically as to how effective this therapy is, it is slowly gaining in popularity. Sweden is one of the countries where this therapy is quite widespread. This therapy also originates from the Chinese Medicine based on the meridians or the energy pathways in the body. According to the accupoint therapists, meridians which are known to be the “Yin” correspond to the parasympathetic nervous system in the body.
Therefore, when these meridians are stimulated, it relaxes the person by slowing the heart, reducing the blood pressure, releasing the knots in the muscles, etc. On the other hand, the “Yang” meridians when stimulated increase the sympathetic nervous system activities. This increases the tension and heart beat rate, increases the blood pressure and produces more contractions in the muscles. The aim or Accupoint Therapy is to bring about a balance between the Yin and Yang that is between the parasympathetic and the sympathetic forces…

Vitamin Side Effects
A lot of people think that Vitamin is good food for body immune system. This is truth that vitamins are the basic nutrients we need daily for our body healthy immunity. However, these vitamins refer to vitamins that we directly absorbed through our food and fruits instead of vitamin pills.
Experts like FDA of USA has advised that vitamin supplements should not replace the balance of nutrients that we can obtain from a variety of wholesome plant foods. We need to make healthier food choices but not take vitamin pills overdose.
Nothing beats nutrients directly from plant foods to nourish and building our balanced immune system. WHolesome plant foods are not only easily digested but also low in fat, calories and cholesterol. We can enjoy eating as many plant foods as often as we like without fearing harmful side effect.

Below are the side effect of vitamin toxicity due to overdose:
1. Vitamin A overdose:
can cause birth defects, fatigue, skin discoloration, bone pain, liver damage
2. Vitamin B3 overdose:
can cause liver damage, peptic ulcers, skin rashes
3. Vitamin B6 overdose:
can cause confusion, numbness, unsteadiness, depression
4. Vitamin C overdose:
can cause diarrhea, kidney stones, poisonous levels of iron in the blood, leading to heart and liver problems
5. Vitamin D overdose:
can cause liver damage, calcium deposits that can damage the hearts, lungs and kidneys, nausea
6. Vitamin E overdose

Vitamins And Minerals Enhance The Function Of The Immune System
Vitamins and minerals are definitely among the substances that control the proper functioning of the body; although they are mainly taken from daily meals, there are certain foods that are richer in vitamins and minerals than others. While vitamins are organic structures, minerals are inorganic; but they are both usually taken from plants that process them from the soil by the intermediary of the sun rays. Very often the action of certain minerals is closely interconnected with that of specific vitamins; thus calcium, for instance, which is crucial in bone development and maintenance, is processed only in the presence of vitamin D3.
As a rule of the thumb, it is worth mentioning that vitamins and minerals enhance the function of the immune system, enabling organs and cells to better perform their structural roles. Maybe you already know what a rich source of vitamin A carrots are, but these vegetables also bring an important mineral supplementation to one’s diet too. Without vitamins and minerals life wouldn’t be possible for plants either, which explains their richness of structure. Even if vitamins and minerals are necessary at all ages, it is nonetheless true that during the growth period the efforts of the system are much more strenuous and the need of nutrients is definitely higher.
Unprocessed foods like fruits and vegetables, whole bread, dairy products, fish, red and white meat are all rich sources of vitamins and minerals, ensuring the proper working of the body. People with a balanced diet will seldom need vitamins and minerals as supplements; but do not trick yourself into thinking that you’ll get any of these substances by having chips and cookies every day. Such products, like many others of the same sort are rich in fat and calories but they definitely offer very limited nutritional value. If you are a vegetarian or a vegan, then you may have some troubles with nutrition.
To illustrate the importance of a balanced diet, we actually need to stress out the fact that certain vitamins and minerals like iron and zinc are usually found in eggs, meat and fish. Then, vitamin B12, for example, is not present under vegetable form, it can only be taken from eggs and dairy products. It may also happen to find it in fortified cereals, but make sure to carefully read the label and find this mention in the instructions. Therefore, under such circumstances, the solution for maintaining a proper body system would be to administrate vitamins and minerals as supplements.

How Does Maitake Mushroom Boost The Immune System?

Medical practices treat the symptoms of disease. They do not prevent the illness itself. Alternative medicine offers a complement to the traditional methods. More and more physicians are realizing this and responding to it in their own practices.
It is becoming more common for physicians to enlist the aid of the natural world in treating their patients. Often, along with traditional medicine, doctors will suggest using a natural product in conjunction with a prescription. One such natural healer is the mushroom.
The Maitake and Other Mushrooms
Mushrooms come in many different varieties and species. They contain a large number of compounds that offer potent healing properties. One of the most useful species of healing mushrooms being recognized for its effectiveness is the maitake mushroom. This mushroom is being tested for its ability to enhance the production of infection-fighting cells in the human body.
Mushrooms are found in wooded areas all over the world and cultivated by both professionals and amateur collectors. If you wish to harvest your own mushrooms, it is vital to your health and safety that you research what each species looks like. Some mushrooms are poisonous to the point of being life-threatening.
These spongy fungal foods are used to make certain immune system enhancing extracts, either alone or in combination with other members of the healing mushroom family.
Mushrooms contain compounds known as alpha and beta glucans. These glucan phytonutrients are actually long-chain polysaccharide molecules. They consist of millions of glucose molecules that are chemically bound to each other.
The beta-glucan compound has been found to have great abilities to enhance the function of the human immune system. Lab studies are finding that the beta-glucans activate production of T-cells and NK (natural killer) cells. These are the cells that fight viral and bacterial infection and, in some cases, even cancer.
A healthy immune system is the only sure way for a human being to remain disease free. When the body’s immune system is not in optimal shape, infections attacking the body are much more serious and can even be life threatening.
The Different Healing Mushrooms
There are many different mushrooms that are studied and used for their medicinal properties. Of the many species of mushrooms, the most common and most used by alternative medicinal healers are:
* Maitake. The maitake mushroom can be found growing on oak trees all over the world. The maitake mushroom is best known for its ability to stimulate the production of T-cells in the blood.
* Shitake. The shitake mushroom is the best known and most widely used as an immune system booster.
* Cordyceps. The extract from the cordyceps mushroom has proven to be effective in fighting various forms of bacteria. It is also known to increase physical stamina. The sports world took notice of the possible benefits of cordyceps mushrooms in 1993 when nine women who were taking cordyceps reportedly broke world records at the Chinese National Games.
* Reishi. This mushroom has been used by the Chinese for thousands of years as an immune system enhancer.
Safety and Effectiveness
A consumer warning states that consumers should be aware of false advertising of mushroom extracts. Many beta-glucan products on the market are not 100% pure. A large number of them only contain about 1% beta-glucan. It is wise to always speak with a trained and knowledgeable store employee before purchasing any product you are unfamiliar with. It is also important that you read the labels of any product you are considering purchasing.
Although not widely recognized yet, the maitake mushroom is fast becoming a leader in the mushroom world for its immune boosting properties. Physicians and consumers are becoming more open to and educated about the medicinal uses of mushrooms. They are in abundant supply all over the world and are waiting to be discovered.

Yoga for Immune System
Yoga For Beginners, Types Of Yoga Asana For Beginners
Today many types of Yoga are in market. Yoga aspirants often get confused with so many different types of Yoga and there names. They don’t know which form of Yoga is suitable for them as only introductory information is available online which doesn’t give much details on a particular form of Yoga.
Yoga for a beginner is best practiced under the supervision of an experienced teacher. It is important to maintain proper body alignment. A good teacher will make corrections so you don’t injure yourself and can also offer modifications if you have any physical restrictions. A teacher can also help you go a little deeper into a pose so you get the most from your practice.
There are various styles and different approaches to yoga. In essence, postures (known as asanas) breathing exercises, relaxation and in some cases meditation and chanting form the basis of all yoga styles.
Starting yoga may be confusing to you at first with all the different positions that is taught. When you start yoga class the instructor can go over the different names with you to help you learn the beginner yoga poses. Yoga is a great way to stretch your muscles safely and it is useful to everyone, even women who are pregnant. If you have had a sports injury or work injury yoga may be a great form of exercise to get you back on track and help you heal faster.
Yoga certainly does help improve strength and flexibility, but there are other benefits as well. It can help ease tension in the body, improve joint mobility, ease back pain by strengthening the spine, improve posture, boost glands in the endocrine system, improve digestion, improve circulation, boost the bodies immune system, increase stamina and much more.
Gradually in beginner’s classes you learn asana that could be performed easily. For example you are made to practice Savashana and Padmasana that are easier to follow. After first few classes you might be directed to do yoga postures of crouching and stooping.
Standing asanas are of great help in strengthening legs and lower muscles of your body. Sitting asanas are focused on making your hips and lower portion of back stronger. Balance yoga postures are exceptionally helpful in improving your mental condition. It also strengthens muscles. Twisting and turning asanas contribute greatly to your enhanced flexibility. And relaxation postures bring required tranquility and peace to your mind thus resulting in total mental rejuvenation.
Don’t be shy in asking your potential instructor about their background. There are certifications for teaching "gym yoga" that an instructor can get in a long weekend. A three day training is just enough to make someone dangerous. That’s not to say that some of the people who start with such certifications don’t turn out to be excellent instructors by dedicating themselves to practice and increasing their knowledge over the course of months and years.

CACTUS Herbs

Cactus contains thousands of phytochemicals that perform myriad functions in the body. Besides regulating the immune system, they also help wound healing.
Scientists tested a topical application that consisted of cactus extract and found that phytochemicals in cactus accelerated tissue regeneration by inhibiting inflammation, stimulating fibroblasts (cells that aid in wound healing) to move to the wound area, speeding up collagen formation and growth of new blood vessels
The polysaccharides in cactus also contribute to wound healing and immune system regulation through modulating macrophage (multi-tasking immune cells) function.
Cactus contributes fiber and strengthens antioxidant activity as it contains nutrients such as pectin and beta-carotene. It also has the 8 essential amino acides – histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine and valine, which is rare for any plant.

Body-mind Exercise Boosts Immune System
You have probably felt some of the healing effects of exercise during your regular training sessions. Working out helps ward off stress and increases energy levels. Your body becomes stronger and healthier which aids in resistance to illness and disease.
Thousands of years ago the eastern cultures developed forms of exercise with amazing healing properties. You may know some of them as yoga, t’ai chi and Qigong. Each of these can be described as meditative types of exercise involving relaxation and concentration. Movements are gradual and purposeful with a focus on the breath.
In ancient cultures body-mind exercise was used in conjunction with medical treatment. Today they are still practiced world wide for both physical exercise and medicinal purposes. Body-mind exercises are often used in hospitals as therapy for physical illnesses like cancer and emotional disorders such as depression and anxiety.
Research indicates that mild to moderate activity can boost immune system function. Self healing and repair are easily stimulated by simple meditative exercise. The emphasis on breathing brings more oxygen into your system which is the beginning of positive healing.
Deep breathing stimulates your lymph system which delivers immune cells to their needed place. The gradual contracting and relaxing of your muscles also stimulates lymph activity. Unlike vigorous training which can drain your energy, the mild nature of body-mind exercise conserves and generates energy.
Qigong, t’ai chi and yoga promote a relaxation response which helps the body shift from a stressed state to a repair and rest state. It is this state that allows your body to call upon the neurochemical messengers that control various immune cells.
The shift towards relaxation promotes a reduction in adrenal hormones which can decrease immune function. Simultaneously, neurotransmiters such as endorphins, which are "feel good" chemicals, are secreted.
The deep breathing and gradual movements increase your oxygen levels. Oxygen plays an important role in proper immune function because it is the fuel source for killer cells and T-cells which ward off infection and other disease states.
Some of the techniques used in these ancient art forms can be applied to other types of exercise. For example, centering on your breathing and taking deep breaths will enhance any fitness activity. Maintaining a relaxed and focused state while training is also beneficial.
Most forms of mild to moderate intensity activities can improve your immune system. The various forms of body-mind exercise have special features which include breath control, relaxation and gradual purposeful movement. These combine to offer one of the best fitness options for improving your immune system and maintaining optimal health.

Immune Supplements Can Prevent And Cure Most Of So-called Incurable Diseases
From early 1970, existence of close relationship between the nutritional status and capabilities of immune response to pathogens has been accepted. Early work has shown that a protein-energy malnutrition, significantly affected the immune response, thereby increasing the risk of infection and the mortality rate of patients suffering from chronic diseases, cancer, influenza, tuberculosis, etc. More recently, it also appeared that obesity interfered with weak immune system. That is, people who have weakened immune system tend to gain weight more easily.
The immune system is a collection of mechanisms within an organism that makes it possible to identify and kill pathogens and tumor cells. It acts as a defense mechanism against pathogens (can cause diseases), such as virus, bacteria, parasites, cancer cells, some poisonous particles. Without the immune system, the body cannot defend itself against aggression.
Immunity and supplements
Many studies have confirmed that certain vitamins and supplements (immune supplements) are capable not only of boosting the immune system, but of also fighting against its aging.
Malnutrition and Immune Function – It has long been known that malnourished people have a higher risk of contracting infectious diseases because of an inadequate immune response. A malnourished immune system not only cannot protect your body, but also can attacks harmless substances. It is a vicious circle. The consequences of certain diseases, including HIV, cancer and tuberculosis, are all more pejorative when your immune system is weak. A lack of protein has a negative effect on the various components of the immune system.
Other nutrients and immunity – Some fatty acids (omega 3 for instance) normally found in fish oils have an effect on immune function, particularly EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), reduce inflammation by modulating the production of cytokines by T cells. The acid alpha-lipoic, an antioxidant much studied in HIV infection seems to be able to regenerate vitamins C and E, increasing their antioxidant effect. Amino acids, particularly arginine and glutamine, play an important role in immunity. The glutamine is involved in the maintenance of the intestinal wall, and thereby prevents the migration of infectious organisms in the blood stream.
Vitamins and Immunity – various studies have highlighted among people living with HIV /AIDS blood low concentrations of certain vitamins, especially vitamins A, B6, B12, C, E and folate.
Vitamin A – The deficit in vitamin A deteriorating function of epithelial cells, essential in maintaining the structure of tissues. On this same vitamin A depend the production of B cells and T.
B Complex – It has been demonstrated that vitamin B12 improves the rate of T cells and NK cell activity in patients with a deficiency of this vitamin. Vitamin B12 and folate are both involved in the production of genetic material. The deficiency in vitamin B6 may occur following the administration of certain drugs such as isonicotinyl hydrazine (for tuberculosis). It seems to affect the function of T cells and the ability of NK cells to kill infectious agents among HIV-positive patients. The deficiency in vitamin B6 has also been associated with an increased risk of certain cancers.
Vitamin C – Deficiency of vitamin C impairs phagocyte function and cellular immunity (Chandra, 1986). This includes inhibition of neutrophil mobility, which, in turn, inhibits the formation of inflammatory reactions. Studies of mega dose vitamin C supplementation in healthy individuals have found the supplement to bolster both cellular and humoral immunity Vitamin E – Vitamin E plays a key role as antioxidant in cell membranes. This earned him to be regarded as a nutrient "anti-viral. The combined intake of vitamins A and E in animals has shown an improvement of the function of neutrophils to destroy infectious agents.
The numerous and complex relationships between food, nutrients and specific immune system are an interesting field of study in the field of biomedical research. People with a good diet will be better prepared immunologically to fight against many modern diseases such as cancer, AIDS and tuberculosis. Several micro-nutrients have significant roles in the functions of the immune system. It is clear that maintaining a good nutritional status and adequate reserve of micronutrients in the body allows an effective immune response to opportunistic infections. However, it is very difficult to intake all those essential nutrients in a regular diet.
