This flower is the ideal health food for both young and old people. Its pollen is really very rich in many nutrients such as proteins, amino acids, Vitamins B and enzymes. Amino acids are subunits of proteins, which create and maintain muscles, making up large parts of the body.

Many researches have found that pumpkin flower is high in carotene, which as anti-cancer effects. Eating pumpkin flower has been discovered to improve IQ. It may also be effective against headaches, cough, insomnia, childhood anemia, diarrhea, constipation, high blood pressure, stroke and jaundice.

Hence, this plant is really a very good natural plant to boost our immune system.

Excessive cholesterol may have big impact on our physical health and trigger a number of chronic diseases, which cardiovascular diseases are the most common. Cholesterols can be classifed as “good” or “bad cholseerols.

Low density lipoproteins are commonly known as bad cholesterols as they will easily damage the inner membrane of our blood vessels. High density lipoproteins are known as good cholesterols, as they can remove the bad cholesterols from the vessel wall.

What you need to know about cholesterols:
Good Cholesterol:

Remove the bad cholesterols accumulating on the arterial wall

HDL lower than 35mg may cause cardiovascular diseases

HDL higher than 60mg may protect the heart

Every increment of 1 mg of HDL concetration blood stream will reduce the incidence of cardiovascular diseases by 2% to 3 %

Bad Cholesterol:

causing the cholesterols to accumulate on the arterial wall

may cause arteriosclerosis

higher LDL concentation may increase the incidence of cardiovascular diseases.

Dangeres of cholesterols:

Almost 46% of coronary heart disease patients have excessive blood cholesterol levels.

Lowering the blood cholesterol level will help reduce the incidence of coronary heart diseases. Lowering the cholesterol level by 10% at the age of 40 will reduce the fatality rate by 50%, while lowering the cholesterol level by 10% at the age of 70 will only reduce the fatality rate by 20%.

Reduce the accumulation of cholesterols on arterial wall will remarkably reduce the incidence and fatality rate of heart disease patients.

Among the different forms of anaemia, iron deficiency anemia is perhaps the most common (constituting more than 80% of all clinical cases). The statistics now shows that Asians are the group that most prone to this kind of disease, especially young infants, women and senior citizens.

The 3 possible conditions of red blood cells in anaemia are:

1. Enlarged red blood cells

A malignant form of anaemia attributed to vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiency

2. Normal Size of Red Blood Cells

This happens in acute hemorrhage such as during a road accident, injury or surgery, as well as in anaemia caused by a combination of other chronic illnesses. The latter could be related to compromised functions of red blood cells due to chronic disease.

3. Smaller red blood cells

This could be further divided into thelassaemia and iron deficiency anaemia. The former is genetically inherited while the latter is owing to lower iron concentrations in the body.

Signs and symptoms of anaemia

1. Pallor: this is the most common sign in anaemic patients.

2. Lethargy and short breath: Also another common sign of anaemia, this is caused by insufficient air capacity oin the body

3. Compromised immunity and susceptibility to infections such as common cold

4. Passion for iced desserts yet intolerant of cold

5. Reduced learning ability: Growing children may suffer from poor concentration due to fatigue.

Our body makes interferons and interleukins. Both play important roles in the immune system.

Interferons and interleukins are types of cytokines – signals that stimulate and activate certain cells in the immune system.

Interferon provides non specific immunity. It main function is viral infections regardless of type A group of proteins produced early on in a viral infection. Interferon are the first line of defence of our immune system. Interferon stop viral replication. If our body cell is infected by a virus, it will releases minute amounts of interferon, which then attach themselves to neighbouring cells. This will prompt those neighbouring cells tos tart producing their own protective anitviral enzymes.

The results is impariment of the growth and replication of the atttacking virus. Interferon also kick starts other parts of the immune system. Interferon also has anti-tumor effects.

Interleukin is a group of proteins. It functions as chenmical messangers between cells. It ativates the “killer” activities of specific white blood cells in the immune system. Interleukin also regulates cell growth and is particularly important in stimulating immune responses, such as inflammation.

Respiratory diseases: we cannot afford to be overlook

Respiratory diseases could be major or minor. You have minor disease like common flu to critical disease like lethal influenza, bird flue, SARS, etc.

Hence, we cannot afford to overlook the serious consequences of the respiratory diseases.

Let’s see some facts below that you will know how serious respiratory diseases can do damage to us.

a. Over 1 billion people in the word are being threatened by increasingly serious air polution

b. By 2020, estimated about 8 million people will die due to air pollution.

c. Hal a million people are killed by air pollution in Asia every year.

d. According to WHO conservative estimate, about 100,000 man suffer from nasopharyngeal carcinoma every year and the ratio for male to female is 3 to

e. About 1.1 billion smokers in this word presently and is expected increase to 1.3 billon by 2015.

f. 2 million asthma patients in Australia and the incidence of asthma is on the rise in the entire world, about up 50% since the past two decades.

g. According to WHO estimation in 2007, about 210million people suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the world. WHO predictes that this disease will become third most important cause of death in the world by 2030.

Below are some typical respiratory disease:

Asthma

Affecting as many as 300million people worldwide, asthma can be caused by an over reaction of the immune system to factors such as allergens like pollen and animal dander, air pollutants like smoke and dust, vigorous exercise and exposure to cold air or sudden temperature change. THis results in inflammation of the breathing tubes and narrowing of the airways, thus causing difficulties in breathing.

Pneumonia

Together with influenza, pneumonia is currently ranked as the seventh leading cause of death in the USA. Characterized by infection or inflammation of the lungs, pneumonia is mainly caused by viruses, bacteria and mycoplasmas. The onset of a common bacterial pneumonia such as Streptococcus pneumonia can produce gradual or sudden symptoms: uncontrollable shaking, chattering teeth, severe chest pains, sweating and coughing up rust colored or greenish mucus.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

COPD will reduce the ability of the lungs to maintain the body’s oxygen supply and to remove carbon dioxide. Compromised pulmonary functions will result in the sufferer feeling debilitated. In addition, COPD sufferers will present breathing difficulty on sight exertion and are unable to conduct regular day to day activities. As a consequences, COPD sufferers will appear listless. Such impaired air stream will eventually jeopardize the life of the patient.

Common symptoms of COPD are short breath, continuous coughing with or without sputum, increased mucus production, breathing difficulty, chest pain, panting, etc. All the symptoms of COPD will invariably weaken the sufferer. Moreover, the disease will bring about remarkable negative impact on the suffer’s day to day living, for instance many are unable to sleep well because of the symptoms.

Boost our immune system for greater heatlh

We can still survive for weeks without food, for days without water, but we can hardly stay alive for minutes if we stop breathing. Therefore, we must strive to maintain a good health of our respiratory system to ensure that we breathe smoothly every day. We can enhance the health of our respiratory system through the intake of high quality plant foods, while maintaining regular work and rest schedules, stable emotions as well as adequate physical exercises.

Royal jelly is a substance produced by younger worker bees and fed to the larva from which the queen bee develops

Why Royal Jelly is so important to our immune system?

Many studies indicate that royal jelly can prolong life and prevent aging. When royal jelly is added to their diets, ahtletes have reported increased stamina and general well being. Royal jelly shows anti-inflammatory and anti bacterial properties.

Royal jelly helps restore poor appetite and lack of enthusiasm in the elderly. It also primes the immune system, which could prove helpful for people with rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, scelroderma, lupus and other auto immune diseases.

To find out what is behind the many health benefits of royal jelly, we need to understand its nutritional contents.

Royal jelly is rich in 18 amino acids, 8 of which our bodies need but cannot produce on their own.

It is high in many immune system boosting substances such as 10-HDA. German and French researchers have shown that the 10-HDA in royal jelly gets into white blood cells and stimulates them to kill viruses, including the viruses that cause herpes virus (cold sores and genital) and hepatitis.

Royal jelly also contains acetylcholine and globulin. Globulin is very important for boosting the immune system. There is no other good source of globulin apart from royal jelly.

Royal jelly is a good source of B vitamins such as pantothenicacid. Pantothenic acid is crucial for stimulating the production of immunoglobulin, the protiens that the white blood cells produce to protect us against viruses, bacteria and fungi.

Royal jelly is a great source of natural steroid hormones and those steorids are safe and natural. One of the steroid hormones it contains is DHEA. Royal jelly is a natural source of DHEA for the elderly to help boost the adrenal glands and provide a natural blood level of DHEA.

Royal jelly is also a supreme source of progesterone and estrogen. Women who have not flashes are often deficient, or they have an imbalance in the right kind of estrogen. Royal jelly is high in estradiol and the form of estrogen it contains is safe. Therefore, royal jelly may help young women to regain balance in their menstrual cycle. It may relieve hot flashes because it provides the deficient hormones that lead to the hot flashes.
