Importance Of Immune System Supplements For Children

Nutritional deficiencies may cause lots of problems in a human body. The major problem which a man can complain of is the degeneration of cellular immune functions. It is a well known fact that man’s immune system starts getting low with the age. Vitamin C: it has multi-function in the body, as it has antibiotic qualities, anti-inflammatory effects, and antioxidant activity. It is very important to take this vitamin particularly in winter. For older children, its dose is 1,000 mg, and 500 mg for children under 3 years old.

Children are given these supplements in the form of powder after mixing it with fruit juice, yogurt or milk and honey (for children over 12 months old).

Cancer, diabetes, arthritis, heart disease. These chronic illnesses will touch the lives of at least one out of every three people. Each of these diseases has been related to a problem with the immune system. In fact, nearly all disease is caused by a malfunction of the immune system.

Your immune system is an incredibly complex and remarkable bodyguard. Its job is to protect all the cells in your body from cancer, viruses, bacteria, and other intruders in your environment. Basically, it wages an ongoing war against invasion. It does this by using an army of white blood cells or leukocytes. These white blood cells originate in your bone marrow and rush to the site of any infection or damaging intruder.

There are two divisions of white blood cells – phagocytes and lymphocytes. The phagocytes are like big Pac-Man cells; they go around the body and eat up all foreign substances like bacteria and pollen. Think of them as the armored unit of your immune system.

The lymphocytes are a more specialized group that attacks specific problems. Some bacteria and all viruses can hide from the phagocytes. They take cover inside the body’s own cells, acting like enemy troops in friendly uniforms. This situation requires action by the Special Forces, the immune commandos – the lymphocytes. With names like Natural Killer cells, it’s easy to picture these troops waging a battle inside you against the foreign invaders that seek to disrupt and control your body.

The combat troops are armed with weapons called antibodies, the guided missiles of the immune system. Antibodies are targeted for each specific type of invader. The quartermaster for the immune system is the lymph system. This is the fluid that surrounds every cell in your body. The lymph system transports nutrients into the cell and moves wastes out of the cell. Unlike your circulatory system, the lymph system has no pump. It only moves through muscle movement and deep breathing. Therefore, it is extremely important to get enough exercise to help promote the flow of lymph fluid. Practicing deep breathing techniques assists the lymph flow as well as increasing the amount of oxygen in your cells. This additional oxygen provides another boost to the immune system.

In recent years, testing has shown an overall decrease in immune system function nationwide. By measuring Natural Killer cells, your body’s first line of defense, scientists have determined that our immune systems have dropped by 29% since 1981. The rate of decline was 10% between 1981 and 1991. It got worse from 1991 to 1997 when immune function decreased by 19%, almost doubling the loss in little over half the time. This deterioration of your defenses is pretty frightening stuff but it is reversible if you take the right steps.

Reducing your exposure to toxins such as herbicides, pesticides, radiation, alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceutical, and recreational drugs is an excellent way to start. Many of these toxins assault your body daily, placing a constant demand on your immune system. Go outside more if possible because the concentration of these poisons is 3-5 times higher in your home than it is outdoors.

Certain natural supplements have been found to be extremely helpful in boosting immune system function. A six-year study of over 450 natural products done at UC-Irvine showed the following to be beneficial to your immune system: Glyconutrients, Garlic, Aloe Vera, Echinacea, Astragalus, Siberian or Korean Ginseng, Gotu Kola, Schizandra, Licorice Root, Lapacho, Melatonin, and Phytochemicals.

These supplements come prepared in a variety of methods. Some are powders; some are capsules; some can be made into tinctures or teas. The amounts used vary according to the product and the individual. It is advisable to consult your physician and someone knowledgeable in herbs before beginning any supplement program. Remember that ‘Natural’ does not always mean ‘Safe’. Some herbal supplements have serious side effects when used improperly and some can cause reactions with your medications if not monitored.

These are the long-term stressors that make one change their life and life-style. PTSS acts as real threat to one’s immune system. It is in illness in itself, and is based on a distant stressful event that has left the person changed. These people have suppressed immune systems generally.

The major point to remember here is that knowing what the killer stressors can do to our immune system and general health, we must learn then some form of stress management. Having so learned these techniques, we can minimize the negative effects stress can (and does) have on our immune systems.

There are many methods of stress management such as yoga, certain forms of modified martial arts, philosophical systems such as employment of the Konov Principle, and also the well-understood power of prayer, faith and religion. These all serve to limit or modify the effects of killer stressors

Vitamin B1, also known as thiamin, is imperative to the body’s ability to process carbohydrates. Whole grain breads, cereals and pastas have high amounts of thiamin. Riboflavin, or B2, can be found in fortified cereals, almonds, asparagus, eggs, and meat. Organ meats, oysters, clams, crabs, cashews, sunflower seeds, wheat bran cereals, whole-grain products, and cocoa products are all high in copper, which aids in metabolism of iron and red cell formation. It also assists in the production of energy for cells. Iron can be found in leafy green vegetables, beans, shellfish, red meat, poultry, soy foods, and some fortified foods. It’s needed to transport oxygen to all parts of the body via the red blood cells. Potassium can be found in foods like Broccoli, potatoes (with the skins on), prune juice, orange juice, leafy green vegetables, bananas, raisins, and tomatoes. It aids in nervous system and muscle function and also helps maintain a healthy balance of water in the blood and body tissues. Red meat, fortified cereals, oysters, almonds, peanuts, chickpeas, soy foods, and dairy products are great dietary sources of zinc. Why Grape Seed Extract?

One of the potential side effects of diabetes is diabetic retinopathy, a disease that can lead to blindness. Diabetes affectes the circulatory system of the retina. The arteries in the eye can become weak and even begin to leak. The leaking vessels often cause swelling and edema in the retina, affecting vision. As the disease progresses, areas of the retina can become oxygen deprived. The body attempts to override the oxygen deprivation by developing new vessels. But new vessles are fragile and hemorrhage easily. Then this occurs the blood gets into the retina, causing spots or floaters and further affecting vision. Further progression of the disease causes retinal detachment and glaucoma.

But researchers are finding that diabetic retinopathy can be effectively treated and even prevented through proper medication, diet, lifesyle, and supplementation. One effective supplement is grape seed extract. Grape seed extract contains a very strong antioxidant called oligometric proanthocyanidin (OPC). This antioxidant is reported to be 50 times more powerful than vitamin E and 25 times stronger than vitamin C. This anti-oxidant strengthnes capillaries, arteries, and veins; improves circulation, reduces capillaryfragility, and nerve damage in the eye.

OPC has been used in France for several years in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy. This therapy was based on a study conducted by Dr. G. Maynard and colleagues in which OPC was used to treat 40 patients with microbleeding of the capillaries. Patients were given 80 to 120mg of OPC daily for a week, and then maintained on 40 to 80 milligrams daily for 1.5 to 4 months. Ninety percent of the patients showed improvement in microbleeding, and eyesight improved obviously.

In conclusion, OPC is effective at traeating and even preventing diabetic retinopathy because it strengthens weak and fragile blood vessels and arteries. OPC is a strong anti-oxidant, something very imortant for someone with diabetes.

Bee pollen is said to contain every substance needed to maintain life and is therefore called a complete food. Bee pollen consists of two basic sections – the water-soluble interior and the hard exterior, or the shell. Most bee pollen is sold with the shell; with the shell intact, the nutrients in the bee pollen cannot be used efficiently. The shell can also be harmful to the digestive system, even in the form of a powder. The only edible part of bee pollen is the water-soluble section. Hence, when we go to buy any bee pollen product from the market or from any company, we have to clarify the processing of their bee pollen that the hard exterior have been removed.

The Wonder of Soy

For a plant-based food, soy has a surprisingly high protein content. The protein content of soy is twice of meat, 4 times of eggs and 12 times of milk.

The American Diabetes Association encrouages diabetics tochoose soy as their main protein source. Soy is easily digested and would be better tolerated among diabetics with poor kidney functions.

More good news for soy research has also found that eating soy based foods lessens the progress of osteoporosis in women after menopause In addition,  the United States Food and Drug Administration FDA has approved the use of this soy related health claim on food labels: A daily diet containing 25g of soy protein htat is also low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce blood cholesterol level and the risk of heart disease.

Tips for Healthy Weight Loss

1. Have a Balanced Diet

Actually eating one or two meals daily cannot effectively help you reduce weight If you restrict the number of meals despite sufering severe hunger pangs, you tend to over eat at each meal and may even exceed the amount of calories needed per day. Hence, having three nutritiously balanced meals in small portions daily is the dieal slimming method

2. Eat your breakfast

Starting your day with a highly nutritious breakfast. A healthy breakfast is very important for each day vitality and work efficiency. Including whole grain cereals, fruits and vegetables in your break fast helps reduce calorie intake at other meals.

3. Take Fiber before Meals

Take fiber half an hour before meals to increase the feeling of fullness, control the absorption of fats and avoid overeating.

4. Note the Order of Foods when Eating

First eat fruits, then soup with no or littleoil, and finally bread potatoes, rice and side dishes. This aids digestion and helps you avoid too much meat intake.

5. Eat Slowly

It takes 20 minutes for the stomach to send a signal to the brain that you are full. You will overeat if you gorge yourselves before your brain receives the “full signal. Hence, eat slowly during meals, chew slowly and avoid watching television as you eat.

6. Eat Less High Calorie Foods

You must also note your nutrient intake while losing weight. Choose foods that easily increase your feeling of fullness. For example, whole wheat bread, brown rice, fruit, vegetables, fish and soybeans. Thsese foods are low in calories and highly nutritious.

8. Select A healthy cooking method

Use less oil when cooking. Steam or boil the foods. Avoid using lard oil, use olive oil.

9. Engage in Moderate Exercise

To lose weight, body must burn more calories than it takes in. Hence, exercise plays an important role in losing weight. Regular moderate exercise helps the body burn off excess fat and speeds up metabolism rates, thereby helping to control weight and maintain fitness at the same time.

10. ENsure you have adequate sleep

inadequate sleep may reduce the satiety hormone leptin and increases the hunger hormone ghrelin in the body. Leptin has an appetite-suppressant effect, while ghrelin increases appetite. Hence, adequate sleep is not only good for health, but also helps control weight.
